The origin of the the Argan oil for benefit aims is dated back to the 11th century, when a famous Egyptian doctor of the time (Alì Ibn Radouane) introduced it in the official papers. This precious oil comes from the Argan tree (Argania Spinosa), one of the few species from the third age which still survives since millions of years ago.
Argan is a tree which is widespread in the dry landscapes, it characterizes the west south of Morocco, despite of the lack of water in the subsoil. It is a long-lived tree which live up to 150/200 years.
The harvest of the Argania Spinosa's fruit takes place in June and July. The fruit harvest is nowadays still manual and as the tradition, it is realized from native women of the place. With 100 kg of desiccated fruit about 6,5 kg of almonds are obtained. After 58 hours of mechanical squeezing processes only about 3 lt of oil can be extracted pure.
